The federal holiday marked today is one on which I’ve commented a few times before, here, here, here, and here. It is not a holiday for me this time, although I do typically take federal holidays off from my day job, nor yet is it a holiday for my wife, and although our daughter is not at school, it is because her teachers need a day to complete administrative tasks resulting from the end of a grading period; it is not a full holiday for my family even aside from the awkwardness we continue to perceive in it.

I’m not aware of any substantial civic celebrations going on in the area where I live, although I do know that local governmental offices are closed (and for much the same reasons I typically am). There aren’t any parades going on, no salutes or fireworks, and I have the sense of nothing so much as fatigue at work at the moment, although I will readily admit to projecting on that score. There seems little enough to celebrate of the day, today, at least in regards to what is putatively the point of it, at least in this part of the world.
I, of course, do have things to celebrate, but those are in my personal life more than in such a civic life as I have. My wife and daughter are well, and that is certainly something I appreciate. I am able still to write such things as appear in this webspace, as well as what I write for the games I administer and play, and I value those experiences. My health is reasonably good, for which I am grateful. There are things that could be better, of course, but there’s an awful lot that could be an awful lot and isn’t, and I’m not unmindful thereof.
Perhaps the thing for me to do today is to reflect on those gratitudes, even if I don’t need a particular day to do so. That, and to get back to work; there’s more than enough for me to do, and not nearly enough of me to get it all done.
I write on a variety of topics and would be pleased to write for you–without AI slop!
